Privacy Policy for Vela Xtream

Last updated: 17 October 2026

Vela Xtream (“Vela”, “the app”) is a media player. You bring your own IPTV provider; the app plays what that provider serves you.

The short version: Vela has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. We do not collect, receive, store or sell any information about you. Nothing you type into the app is sent to us, because there is nowhere for it to be sent.

Everything below explains what the app does on your device and who else it talks to, so you can check that claim rather than take it on faith.

Information we collect

None.

We operate no backend service. Vela does not create an account, does not ask for an email address, and contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting SDK of any kind. There is no third-party code in the app that reports anything about you to anyone.

We therefore cannot see what you watch, when you watch it, what you search for, or which provider you use.

Information stored on your device

All of the following stays on your device. It is not transmitted to us.

Your provider sign-in. The server address, username and password for your IPTV provider, or the link to your playlist and its TV guide, are stored in the iOS Keychain, the same encrypted store the system uses for passwords. They are sent only to the provider you entered them for, in order to sign in and fetch streams. A playlist file you import from Files is kept in the app's own storage on your device.

Your library. Vela caches your provider's catalog (channels, films, series, categories and TV guide listings) in a local database so the app does not have to download it again on every launch. This cache is excluded from iCloud backup. It is a copy of your provider's data, and deleting the app deletes it.

Your activity in the app. Favourites, recently watched channels and playback positions are stored locally so the app can resume where you left off.

What you watch, rate and search for. To recommend titles, Vela keeps a record on your device of what you watch and for how long, the titles you mark “I like this” or “Not for me”, what you search for and pick, and which recommendations it has shown you. Your recommendations are worked out from this record on the device itself, along with any genres, categories or people you ask for more or less of in Your Taste. It is never transmitted: not to us, and not to your provider. You can stop the app recording it in Account → Recommendations (“Learn from what I watch”), forget a single title in Your Taste, and erase all of it with “Clear taste history”; signing out or removing a provider erases it too.

Preferences. Playback and display settings are stored locally.

A device identifier. Vela stores a random identifier, derived from Apple's identifierForVendor, in the Keychain. It is used for one purpose: to remember that this device has already started its free trial, so the trial cannot be restarted by reinstalling. It is not an advertising identifier, it is not linked to your name or email, and it is never transmitted off the device.

Who your information is sent to

Your IPTV provider. When you sign in, Vela contacts the server or playlist address you entered, with the username and password you entered where there are any. It requests your catalog, your TV guide and your streams, and the details (genre, cast, director) of individual titles: when you open one, and in the background for a few films at a time that Vela is considering recommending to you, which can include films you have liked or favourited. This is a direct connection between your device and your provider; it does not pass through us. What your provider does with that connection is governed by their privacy policy, not ours. If you did not choose your provider yourself, ask whoever gave you the sign-in details.

Many IPTV providers serve content over plain HTTP rather than HTTPS. Vela allows this because otherwise most providers would not play at all. On an unencrypted connection, a network operator between you and your provider can in principle observe what you are requesting. This is a property of the provider's server, not of the app.

Your TV. When you choose a TV in “Play On”, Vela sends it what it needs to play, over your local network and nowhere else:

  • The TV is given the address of the stream, whether it is an AirPlay, Google Cast or DLNA TV. For most providers that address includes your provider username and password, and the TV uses it to connect to your provider itself. Anyone who can see what that TV has played may be able to see the address. What the TV does with it is governed by its maker's privacy policy, not ours.
  • When a TV cannot fetch the stream that way (a provider that redirects it, or one that does not allow a Google Cast TV to read it), Vela passes it on from your iPhone or iPad instead, over your local network: the phone fetches the stream from your provider, and the TV fetches it from the phone, at an address that works only for that cast and only on your network. The TV is then not given your provider's address. Nothing is stored, and Vela has to stay open while it plays.

To find TVs, Vela asks iOS for access to your local network. It looks only after you open “Play On”, and stops when you leave the player; it sends nothing about your network or your TVs to us, and keeps no record of what you cast. If you do not allow local network access, everything else in Vela works as before, and AirPlay still works through the system.

Apple. If you purchase Vela Pro, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card details, billing address or Apple Account. We receive no personal information from Apple, only a signed receipt on your device confirming the subscription is active.

Vela contacts no other network destination.

Subscriptions

Vela offers a 14-day free trial, after which some features require Vela Pro, an auto-renewing annual subscription.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it at any time in Settings on your device. Apple's terms apply to the transaction.

Content

Vela hosts no content. It contains no channels, films or series of its own and no directory of providers. It plays only what the provider you signed in to chooses to serve you. We have no relationship with, and no control over, any provider or any content it carries.

Children

Vela is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children. Because the app plays whatever a third-party provider serves, it may be able to reach content unsuitable for children depending on the provider. Vela hides categories that identify themselves as adult by default; this depends on the provider labelling them, so it is a convenience, not a guarantee, and it is not a substitute for iOS Screen Time restrictions.

Your choices

  • Delete your sign-in details: remove a provider in Account → Providers, or sign out to remove all of them.
  • Delete your cached library: removing the provider, signing out, or deleting the app removes it.
  • Delete your viewing record: “Clear taste history” in Account → Recommendations erases what the app has learned about your taste.
  • Delete everything: deleting the app removes all local data, including the Keychain entries Vela created.

Since we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete or return, and no data-access request to make. If you are in a jurisdiction with statutory data rights (GDPR, CCPA and similar), they are satisfied by there being no data: we are not a controller or processor of any personal information belonging to you.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it, and the revised version will be published at this address before it takes effect.
